As you may or may not know, Wordpress (our blogging platform) has recently come under attack by a new worm virus that infects many of the admin tools in the Wordpress installation. We were infected and consequently had to temporarily turn off comments as this was the main area affected (over 200 spam comments a day). The only way to prevent this, or recover from it, is to upgrade the Wordpress installation. Easy, right? Well… It’s supposed to be, they even have an “automatic upgrade” where there’s no user input needed. Of course in the instructions it says that sometimes this option doesn’t work. I guess this time was one of ‘em. So we upgraded the manual way, deleting old files and uploading new ones to replace them. Well, as I said, it’s a good thing we back stuff up. After updating, the blog stopped working (the instructions said this might happen also). Well, not completely, we just couldn’t access anything. We couldn’t post anything or even get in to delete all those spam comments. We’ve now reverted back to the old version and are working on getting the new one back up again. If you were visiting at all in the last 48 hours, sorry, we’re still working on it. So if you see a missing pic, or something just doesn’t look quite right, now you know.
But hey, what better opportunity than to share with our clients, that yes, as with our blog, we do keep backups of all of your images. If something were to happen to the files on our computer, we’ve still got the originals elsewhere. You know, peace of mind and all that…
